SHELBY — Darin Fleming said he saw a need for more handyman and home-repair services in Richland County and surrounding areas, so he added a new service to his ACE Hardware franchise in March.
Fleming has been the franchise owner of ACE Hardware on 157 Mansfield Ave. since 2018. He runs the business with his wife, Leslie, and two adult children — Sid and Samantha.
The family celebrated the service addition with a ribbon-cutting Friday morning.

Jessica Gribben, the Richland Area Chamber & Economic Development liaison to the City of Shelby, said she plans to pass along ACE’s contact information to some family members.
“We’re so happy to have this service in Shelby,” Gribben said. “Having a trusted source for work done in your home is awesome.”
ACE Hardware offers repair packages by-the-hour.
“That’s different than most people are used to around here,” Darin Fleming said. “We’re doing two-hour, four-hour and eight-hour packages based on what you tell us you might need.
“Within three days, hopefully we can come out to your place, and we’ll have someone dedicated to the phone so your calls will always be answered.”
All work completed by an ACE Hardware handyman will have a one-year warranty.
“ACE’s slogan is bringing helpful to your home, which is what we’re doing with this new program,” Fleming said. “We’ve got quite a few five-star reviews out there already, so it’s going well.”
Sid Fleming said Shelby’s ACE Hardware has about 15 retail associates and four contractors. He said popular services so far include painting, fencing and shelving work.
Employees serve areas in Mount Gilead, Lucas, Lexington, Ashland, Perrysville, Ontario, Bellville, Shelby, Crestline, Shiloh, Galion and Mansfield.
Handyman service hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday–Friday. Appointments can be scheduled online, via phone at 419-517-6112 or in-person at 157 Mansfield Ave. in Shelby.
