For all of you out there, who have been searching for the perfect house to buy, but have been beaten to the punch because of the hot real estate market, there are other ways to go about it. Pictured are the before and after images of 101 17th Street, located on the city’s near West Side. It’s these types of renovation projects that can give us all hope that, street by street, Buffalo’s residential landscape will continue to evolve in ways that are hard to imagine.

Every once in a while, we showcase a renovated house of this nature, to demonstrate the possibilities. Of course, when looking at the before image, it can be hard (for most people) to picture the full potential. It takes a special person, with the right knowhow and resources, to manage a project such as this. Fortunately, we continue to see impressive investments along these lines, as fewer and fewer affordable “move in ready” houses hit the market. It appears that this particular house had decent bones to work with.

There was a time, not that long ago, when a conversion such as this, on 17th Street, would have been out of the question. Today, the investment is not only safe, it’s wise – as long as the purchase price is worth it. But a project like this is certainly not for everyone. Luckily, there are people out there who can pull it off, while setting precedents for others to follow.
